For some, it may be our saying "Spanish village", but for some, like Gordana Miletic, it is much more than that. For her, cooking is her soul on a plate, in every sense of the word.
Mmm, grub, who can't be happy with a good bite? Each of us would like to try it - the challenge is real! It must be admitted that being a professional photographer brings many new, beautiful, exciting stories that bring with them certain privileges. Therefore, it was a great honor and pleasure to work with Gordana, to say the least about her chef, it is actually her autobiography that shows the beauty of her soul that manifests itself in the preparation of various recipes - an irresistible project for collaboration, isn't it? ☺️
The Cookbook Soul on a plate Gordana Miletic, published by Kulturni element, recently promoted, became part of the photography portfolio with delight. In short and simple, the book is for every recommendation, literary and technical, both for reading and for preparing delicious dishes and delicacies - it is worth having. And in order not to accumulate any more redundant words, this photo story is actually a different presentation of the book, an aspect observed through the eyes of the photographer.☺️
As with any other photo shoot, before its realization, a discussion and agreement between the client and the photographer is required. From the very beginning, the conversation with Gordana and her family convinced me that I would embark on an exciting, light and easy project that would be more than just a photo shoot. And no, it's not just because it's about the food, although that itself is a great challenge for photography, but also spending time with the Miletic family, above all with Gordana, who prepared food those unforgettable days with such enjoyment, as well as numerous conversations about her childhood, life and everyday things that follow us all. It really is one of those projects that really affects both professional and personal life.
The photos as an illustration of Gordana's recipes represent the iconography of her handwork! The natural look of the food for the photo shoot, which is in line with the Gordaninon personality, shaped all the food compositions. It is extremely important to associate the image with the author of the product because it absolutely represents their visual representation. You are obliged to work in such a way when you work with a chef, wich is difference from the catalog visualization of industrial food products where the emphasis is on marketing placement and mass. The chef of each menu is woven into the served plate, his personality is woven into each of our bites, so it is important to approach technically according to his sensibility and desire. As Gordana says in her book, and she told me a lot about it, she was shaped by her childhood, life with her grandfather and grandmother, which is proof that everything comes from the family and its exceptional importance for every person, hence the natural light with neutral backgrounds in the photos as a symbol of the warmth of a family home.
Food photography by default should show the edibility and texture of the food, evoke taste and smell, especially when it comes to chefs. That is why it is extremely important to have certain knowledge, experience and photo equipment in working with it. On the other hand, an extremely important role in a good visual presentation of a recipe is played by its serving and decoration. Gordana won me also. As a good connoisseur of aesthetics, she made my job much easier with her presentation. Iconography of her hands work - completely! Mine was only there to "squeeze" in today's modern jargon and choose the best angle. Because the challenge is big, the recipe simply has to attract you to try it, and in addition, of course, to make it yourself, that's certainly why cookbook exists.
Someone once said that the best food is cooked with the heart, for Gordana this is apsolutely true, she poured her heart into delicious dishes that both taste and smell leave you breathless. And that phenomenal side of professional photography, from the beginning of this story, which also brings benefits, is a witness to this, because, of course, after the shooting day was over, the recipes went through the tasting - it had to be tried! ☺️ And besides, those moments together with the Miletic family in their home, for their agape in the true sense of the word, remain in an even more beautiful memory. Therefore, working on the cookbook Soul on a plate is not just taking photos, it is a game, enjoyment and socializing. An example of a project and collaboration to be desired! ❤️
